MAIN RESEARCH INTERESTS

• Spintronic materials : The idea of spintronics is to utilize the spin of the electron as well as the charge in semiconductor devices. It faces materials challenges to merge magnetic materials with semiconductors. Our group focuses on the potential of transition metal and rare-earth compounds, in particular the nitrides. This work is currently sponsored by NSF and ONR. My main research interest lies in Mn-doped ScN, a dilute ferromagnetic semiconductor. Electronic structure calculations have shown that the moment of 2-3 Bohr-magnetons arises from interactions up to third-nearest neighbor which are ferromagnetic. With only 3% Mn, we predict a Tc larger than room temperature.
